Game Context
Golden Axe is a legendary arcade side-scrolling beat 'em up from 1989, set in a high-fantasy world. Getting Oriented
This is a 1–2 player co-operative fantasy side-scroller, guiding your chosen hero fighting through Death Adder’s forces to the final boss.
- 1. Control Your Weapon and Movement: Use WASD or Arrow Keys to walk, run, jump, and double-jump. Z key (Button A) swings your weapon, tapping repeatedly to combo. X key (Button B) either charges up your magical spell when you have green magic stored (visible gauge at player 1/2 health corner), or if you have a container or are near a downed foe, you can knock them into the air combo for damage. Press Jump and Attack together to launch magical attacks if you have spell jars.
- 2. Execute Core Game Tasks: Battle standard footmen, shielded knights and wizards that often have treasure (or magic) vases. Rescue little gnome-like guys for magic potions or extra lives bonuses. On some level sections, enemies appear riding creatures – knock off riders with a kick or hit so you can commandeer creature for its special attack.
- 3. Ride Creatures and Use Powerful Magic: When you’ve mounted a fire-breathing beast or clawed monstrosity from wild enemies, press Attack (Z) to do its own powerful strike, like flames, claw sweeps or tail whips. To use ultimate magic, you must have at least one charge from a gnome, then press Attack (Z) for your Level 1 Spell. If you collect multiple green magic bottles in sequence before using, each collected boosts to a larger multi-segment spell (up to Level-4) that can wreck entire groups for massive damage.
